       Zack loves wheelin' and climbing rocks already. Like father like son. Here's my latest climb up Mount Washington. With 6288' of jumbled rock, it is known affectionately by climbers as "the Rockpile". It holds the record for the "World's worst recorded weather" at -47 degrees below zero and 231 mph winds.
Jim's Mount Washington solo climb... it was AWESOME!!!

Man lives in society. Our lives are bound with the lives of others willingly or unwillingly, directly or indirectly. We eat the food grown in the same soil, drink water, from the same the same spring and breathe the same air. Even while staunchly holding our own views, it would be helpful, if we try to adjust ourselves to our surroundings, if we also know to some extent, how the mind our neighbor moves and what the main springs of his actions are. From this angle of vision it is highly desirable that one should try to know all religions of the world, in the proper sprit, to promote mutual understanding and better appreciation of our neighborhood, immediate and remote.

Further, our thoughts are not scattered as appear to be on the surface. They have got themselves crystallized around a few nuclei in the form of great religions and living faiths of the world that guide and motivate the lives of millions that inhabit this earth of ours. It is our duty, if we have the ideal of ever becoming a citizen of the world before us, to make a little attempt to know the great religions and systems of philosophy that have ruled mankind.

Mohammad's own treatment with his bitterest enemies is the noblest example for his followers. At the conquest of Mecca, he stood at the zenith of his power. The city which had refused to listen to his mission, which had tortured him and his followers, which had driven him and his people into exile and which had unrelentingly persecuted and boycotted him even when he had taken refuge in a place more than 200 miles away, that city now lay at his feet. By the laws of war he could have justly avenged all the cruelties inflicted on him and his people. But what treatment did he accord to them? Mohammad's heart flowed with affection and he declared, "This day, there is no REPROOF against you and you are all free." "This day" he proclaimed, "I trample under my feet all distinctions between man and man, all hatred between man and man."  H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I

The following pics are from my Mount Monadnock climb February 6th 2005. I wanted to do something special to celebrate on Bob Marley's 60th Birthday. It was beautiful. Jah is Truely in the mountains (as well as the trees, the oceans, the rocks and all His creations).  Peace Bob!!

On Being Spiritual Kinsmen

"Knowing that material and spiritual progress are essential to man, we must ceaselessly work for the equal attainment of both. Only then shall we be able to acquire that absolute inner-calm, so necessary to our well-being. Whenever conflict arises between material and spiritual values, the conscience plays an important role and anyone who suffers from a guilty conscience is never really free from this problem until he makes peace with himself and his conscience. Discipline of the mind is a basic ingredient of genuine morality and therefore of spiritual strength. Spiritual power is the eternal guide, in this life and the life after, for man ranks supreme among all creatures. Led forward by spiritual power, man can reach the summit destined for him by the Great Creator. Since nobody can interfere in the realm of God we should tolerate and live side by side with those of other faiths. In the mystic traditions of the different religions we have a remarkable unity of spirit. Whatever religion they may profess, they are spiritual kinsmen. While the different religions in their historic forms bind us to limited groups and militate against the development of loyalty to the world community, the mystics have already stood for the fellowship of humanity...in harmony with the spirit of the mystics of ages gone by.

No one should question the faith of others, for no human being can judge the ways of God."  H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I

And most importantly on Religion...

"We must stop confusing religion, and spirituality. Religion is a set of rules, regulations, and rituals created by humans, which were supposed to help people grow spiritually. Due to human imperfection religion has become corrupt, political, divisive, and a tool for power struggle. Spirituality is not theology or ideology. It is simply a way of life, pure and original as given by the Most High. Spirituality is a network linking us to the Most High, the universe, and each other.”  H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I

The following are from an unsuccessful attempt to hike Mount Flume and Mount Liberty via the Liberty Slide Trail. I had planned on doing a loop going up the Liberty Slide Trail, over Mount Flume, across the ridgeline to Mount Liberty and down the Liberty Spring Trail. However the conditions on the Liberty Slide Trail made it impossible.

The warm, 1st day of Spring sunshine had softened the snow which was at least 3', and often 5' deep, in many places. Even WITH snowshoes I was sinking in on almost every step to about 1 foot. Very often I would sink down knee to waist deep and create huge "postholes".

           Taken on Unsuccessful attempt at Mt Flume & Mt Liberty 3/20/2005.
      Trudged & sank & trudged & fell and trudged through knee to waist deep snow for 6 hours!

"Until the color of a mans skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes we will have war" from a speech by H.I.M. Haile Selassie I in California on Feb. 28, 1968. Set to music by Bob Marley the song is called "War".

"What we may utter today can add little to the heroic struggle of those who, by their example, have shown us how precious are freedom and human dignity and of how little value is life without them. Their deeds are written in history."

ONE LOVE/ PEOPLE GET READY

by: Bob Marley & Curtis Mayfield 1977

One Love! One Heart!
Let's get together and feel all right.
Hear the children cryin' (One Love!);
Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!),
Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Sayin': let's get together and feel all right.
Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love!);
There is one question I'd really love to ask (One Heart!):
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?
One Love! What about the one heart? One Heart!
What about - Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love!);
So shall it be in the end (One Heart!), All right!
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right. One more thing!
Let's get together to fight this Holy Armagiddyon (One Love!),
So when the Man comes there will be no, no doom (One Song!).
Have pity on those whose chances grows t'inner;
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation.
Sayin': One Love! What about the One Heart? (One Heart!)
What about the - ? Let's get together and feel all right.
I'm pleadin' to mankind! (One Love!); Oh, Lord! (One Heart)
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
